Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who can own more than just code — someone who understands backend architecture, infrastructure, production systems, scalability, security, and the business impact of the solutions they build.

This role requires someone with strong Node.js expertise, hands-on production experience with cloud and containerized environments, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to take technical ownership from architecture through production delivery.

Key Responsibilities

For this role, “it works on my machine” is not acceptable.

You should understand and be able to troubleshoot the complete production journey:

Code → Build → Docker → CI/CD → Google Cloud → Kubernetes → Server → Database → Network → Monitoring → Production

Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Design and implement REST APIs, microservices, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven architectures.
Design, optimize, and maintain MongoDB, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL databases.
Build and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
Work with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to deploy, operate, and scale production systems.
Troubleshoot Linux servers, Nginx, reverse proxies, load balancing, SSL/TLS, DNS, networking, firewalls, and server security.
Implement and optimize Redis, caching, queues, background workers, and asynchronous processing.
Build secure authentication, authorization, API security, secrets management, and data protection mechanisms.
Maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, logging, monitoring, alerting, and observability.
Investigate and resolve production issues including slow APIs, high CPU or memory usage, Kubernetes pod failures, failed deployments, database bottlenecks, 502/503 errors, service communication failures, and scaling issues.
Own complex technical problems from architecture and implementation through production resolution.
Mentor developers and contribute to improving engineering standards, architecture, automation, and development processes.

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of strong backend development experience, with substantial production experience using Node.js.
Strong expertise in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
Deep understanding of asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
Strong experience with MongoDB, MySQL and/or PostgreSQL, including database design, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
Strong hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including deployments, services, pods, scaling, health checks, and troubleshooting.
Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Strong understanding of Linux servers, networking, reverse proxies, security, monitoring, and production environments.
Strong debugging and root-cause problem-solving abilities.
Proven ability to own complex technical problems from architecture through production.
Strong product, customer, and business understanding.
Practical experience using AI and modern engineering tools to improve development speed, debugging, automation, productivity, and quality.
Strong communication, teamwork, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

This is a full-time position based in our office in Mohali, India. Hybrid options may be available for exceptional candidates.
This role carries significantly higher expectations than a conventional backend development position.
